On Friday, September 20, 2019, more than 2,500 people left their Philadelphia-area classrooms and workplaces to join a youth-led “Global Climate Strike” demonstration that was one of the largest mass protests related to climate change. The strikes in 139 different countries were inspired by Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg’s Friday for Future movement. The Philadelphia march was organized by a number of groups, including the Sunrise Movement.
